Fantastic art accolade for seven-year-old Worthing girl

Alice Gebbels’ Cogs And Wheels picture, inspired by Year 3’s Marvellous Moving Machines topic, was selected from over 17,000 entries.
The exhibition recognises the talents of young artists aged between five and 19 from all over the UK.

Hide AdJoanna Eccles, art co-ordinator at Broadwater Church of England Primary School, who submitted Alice’s work to the Royal Academy of Arts, said: “I am absolutely delighted for Alice.
“ This is a huge achievement for someone so young. We are all extremely proud of her.”
Alice said, “I couldn’t believe the news when I found out.
“I can’t wait to see my picture displayed in a real-life gallery.”
The Royal Academy of Arts is currently closed because of the coronavirus crisis.

Hide AdBut it will launch the exhibition online on July 12 and aims to set it up at the Academy in London in the autumn.
Alice’s work, a mixed-media piece using watercolour, pen and pencil, will feature in both exhibitions.
A Royal Academy spokesman said: “For more than 250 years, the Royal Academy has been run by artists, with art and creativity at its heart.
“We are committed to leading the way in championing the importance of the arts and creative thinking in education. Taking inspiration from the annual Summer Exhibition, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is an opportunity for young artists aged five-19 years to exhibit their work online and on site at the Royal Academy.”
