A LANCING church is to hold an auction this Saturday to fund a new toilet and kitchenette for the Anglo-Saxon building.

Project manager Patrick Welch said he has been raising money for Saint James the Less for 18 months and has so far raised £90,000 of the £150,000 target.

He said: “This is an amazing achievement for a relatively small parish so we’re immensely grateful and we would love to continue that support.”

The church has never had a toilet facility and kitchen for its 1,000-year lifespan.

Father Stephen Date said: “This is a Grade I listed building, but if we can modernise while keeping within the spirit and use of the building then why not.”

The auction will feature nearly 150 items including a 32inch flat screen TV and even a kitchen sink.

All welcome to attend this Saturday at the Church Hall in Mill Road (opposite Miller and Carter) at 1.30pm, with viewing and refreshments starting from 10am.
