Ice causes Sunday traffic chaos and spate of accidents
Police closed the road in both directions for almost three hours so that the road could be gritted. It reopened at 9am and no-one was injured in the accidents, but cars were damaged as they skidded into the central barrier and off the road into ditches.
At 8.51am two cars were reported to have hit the central reservation of the A24 Findon bypass near Washington in separate crashes.

Hide AdPolice warned drivers using the A2700 Titnore Lane at Worthing that there were dangerous ice patches on the route.
The A23 was closed at lunchtime following accidents on both north and southbound carriageways.
*Earlier a Horsham man died when his van hit a fence near Horsham. No oher cars were involvedin the crash on the A281 Guildford Road near Broadbridge Heath in the early hours of Sunday morning. The driver, who lived locally died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 12.30am. His identity has not yet been released.
