The extraction process involves a vertical shaft into the shale and then in a horizontal direction for half a mile to one mile (no information on this) under the local area.
The hard layer of shale is then crumbled by the injection of water and chemicals (again no information on the quantity of chemicals).

Hide AdFrom the one vertical shaft it is possible to drill in an arc of 160 degrees under all the land.
In coal mines supports are installed and yet still subsidence occures and water laden with chemicals has to sink down to the water table.
No attempt to explain away these problems is made, just a justification on economic grounds. How to transport the resulting product is overlooked.
