Two people have been rescued from a house which caught fire in Brighton.

Crews were called to a two storey house in Florence Road at 1.49pm, a spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

He added: “We initially sent two then three appliances and at that stage we had rescued two people from the property.”

Oxygen was given to the two people who were rescued, the spokesman said.

He added: “We then had four pumps dealing with the fire which was on the first floor.

“We had six crews using breathing apparatus and positive ventilation.”

Positive ventilation is a system used by the fire service to remove smoke.
