The Crawley Borough Local Plan 2015-2030, which identifies 5,000 new houses for the plan period, was found sound by the planning inspector, and Crawley Borough Council’s Cabinet recommended it for approval last Wednesday.
Peter Smith (Lab, Ifield), cabinet member for planning, explained that it ranged from allocating housing sites, to setting the level of affordable housing across developments, to protecting office space in areas such as Manor Royal, and designating green spaces like Ifield Brook Meadows.

After being agreed by Cabinet it will now go to Full Council to be formally adopted.
Mr Smith added: “I would recommend that all 37 members of the council have a duty to support this plan to protect our town and make it a wonderful place to live in that it is.”
In particular Michael Jones (Lab, Bewbush), cabinet member for public protection and community engagement, welcomed the safeguarding of playing fields in Bewbush, and policies on the future use of the former Oakhurst Grange Nursing Home.
