Popular artist displays his skills to packed audience

Nicholas Englefield returned to Bognor Regis Art Society for his annual demonstration to a packed audience.

His painting this year was a depiction of Beanstalk Cottage in the heart of Firle Beacon in East Sussex.

He described the beautiful scenery as being akin to the landscape of Scotland.

He primed both back and front of his canvas before he started laying down the thick acrylic paint with a pallet knife in the darker shades first.

He advocates the use of veridian green against all other types of greens.

This green has no yellow in it and gives a bluish tone complementing the sky.

He also advocates using Mars violet with a touch of burnt sienna for enhancing cloud formation '“ giving a more realistic finish and scammbling (a new word for the Oxford Dictionary) it into the clouds with a stiff brush.
