Rubbish tip at Laybrook brickworks 'extremely unlikely to go ahead'
The campaign group says that the Government's new Waste Strategy means that County Hall will have to focus less on landfilling waste , especially landfilling rotting biodegradable rubbish and more on recycling and energy from waste.
"That means that there will be no need for a landfill site at Laybrook," said a group spokeswoman.

Hide AdShe added that the new strategy gives council's flexibility and incentives to manage and treat waste according to local conditions, without ordinary householders being charged extra or having poorer service and without carrying on with environmentally damaging landfill.

Under the Strategy, money will be available for building waste treatment plants and improving collection of recyclables from such sources as private finance initiatives, enhanced capital allowances and renewable obligation certificates.
