Sussex fundraisers contribute to record-breaking Children In Need

A huge total of £37,100,687 was raised for the annual appeal, with people of all ages getting involved in fundraising efforts. Sussex fundraisers included students at Hatch Drama, in Hastings, who raised £209 with a sponsored mime. Pupils, aged between four and 11 years old, had to forgo speaking for an allotted amount of time and mime all their activities instead. Laura, the class teacher said: “Hatch Drama is all about building confidence and communication skills, so we thought that communicating purely through mime was the perfect challenge to help the children raise money for a worth while cause. “I think it is really important that children feel they are part of a larger community and are able to reach out and help others less fortunate than themselves. “I hope that doing a fun activity for charity not only helped to raise the children’s awareness of the world around them, but also showed them that they have the power to make a positive difference.” Elsewhere in Sussex, students at Glebe Primary School honoured tradition by ‘colouring in’ a giant Pudsey Bear with coins. Every class from Reception up to Year 6 had the opportunity to visit the bear during the course of the day to add their collections of bronze and silver coins. By the end of the day every part of him was covered, from head to toe. Miss Kelly, headteacher at Glebe, said: “It is amazing that all those coins rescued from down the side of the settee have helped us raise a fantastic total yet again this year. “A huge thank you to everyone for their contributions, as we will be able to send a cheque to the BBC Appeal for an impressive amount. Another great profit from Pudsey’s picture.” Their efforts follow hot on the heels of The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge - a cycle ride from Land’s End to the East End which travelled through Sussex earlier this week, raising an incredible £3,468,378 for the cause.
