Teen tennis star’s YouTube video a smash hit in Hawaii
Stefan Coney, 18, of Arlington Crescent, will jet off to Hawaii in January to begin studying for a four-year exercise science degree.
A West Worthing Tennis Club member, Stefan, first thought about making a ‘recruitment’ video two years ago, following conversations with his tennis friends.

Stefan, who started playing at the age of seven, said: “I am ecstatic about this opportunity I have been given. And if it wasn’t for the club, I would never have had it. They have supported me since I was young.
“My family are really pleased with me but I think my mum’s a bit emotional.
“A lot of my friends are out there (America) playing college tennis, so it will be nice to get out there with them. They provide your training, coaching and entry to all the tournaments. In return, you study and get your degree. It’s a no-brainer, you get the best of both worlds.”

Universities in Florida, Ohio and California all offered him a place, but it was the location and the deal offered by Hawaii Hilo that proved the most attractive as well as the tougher competition on offer. He hopes, upon graduating, to go into sports management.
