MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING: Do make a point of dropping in at the Hall sometime between 10am and noon tomorrow (Saturday) for coffee and cakes. Despite what I wrote last week, there won’t be any other opportunities for shopping, but the raffle prizes will be some fine prints very generously presented by Brenda Hartill. You will be helping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, which does marvellous work for both patients and their close relatives.
SERVICES IN ST MARY’S: On Sunday morning there will be a celebration of Holy Communion at 8am, and the monthly Family Service for All at 11.15am, followed by refreshments in the church.

Hide AdFLU CLINICS: This year children in reception class and years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be offered the vaccination at school. Pre-school children aged 2, 3 and 4 can receive the Nasal Flu clinics at one of our surgeries from 1.30pm on Wednesday October 17, from 1.30pm on Wednesday October 31, or from 2pm on Thursday November 22. For pre-school children it’s ESSENTIAL to make an appointment in advance by ringing 01424 882394 or 01797 252140 - when you’ll also be told which surgery to go to (information I don’t have). Please make a note of these times and dates, which I’m publishing this week only. For adults whose surname starts with A to N the one and only clinic will be at Broad Oak surgery from 2pm to 3pm on Wednesday October 31. The turn of surnames M to Z will come at the same times on Wednesday November 28. I’ll try to include reminders in this column the week beforehand.

THE GHOST: Next Saturday evening October 20, 7 for 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall Dr John Crook, will give an illustrated presentation on “Stephen Crane, the Brede Giant and the Ghost Play of 28 December 1899”. Dr Crook has an extensive knowledge of local history. An excellent speaker, he has given several fascinating talks on Brede-related themes. For more detailed information about Saturday’s talk, please turn to page 17 of the October Parish Magazine: it’s clearly going to be well up to Dr Crook’s usual high standard! The £7.50 price of entry tickets includes cheese, biscuits and a glass of wine. They are available from Marion Firman (01424 751165) or Pat Whately (01424 883069). This is a fundraising event for the Friends of St George’s Church, Brede.
