In a new event on the local calendar, runners tackled the sand, strong winds and even breakwaters to negotiate in the inaugural Witterings 10k.

It provide an opportunity for James Baker to notch up another career win, closely followed by a resurgent Chris West.

The pair posted great times in the conditions and terrain of 38.08 and 38.53. There was nearly a three-minute gap to Mikey Neville, giving Chichester Runners a clean sweep in having the first three home.

Never one to resist a challenge, Chichester’s Sasha Vargin notched up a double win recently in two notoriously tough events in Bordon and the West Wittering beach race.
