SITTING behind a desk chomping cheese straws is a cultural norm in the Express office.
But one fatty reporter is determined to take on a gymtastic new life style.

Chris Eyte currently stands at 16st 9ibs, according to several weighing machine reports.

Doctors tell him he is 'morbidly obese' and is in grave danger if he does not shed the pounds.

Two weeks ago Chris joined a gym in an attempt to get down to 12st.

He met with a personal trainer who set out a training programme.

Chris said: 'I have been following the programme five days per week.

'But so far I still can't see my toes.

'It's a bit complicated as I have some health conditions - which led to me putting on weight a few years ago.

'But it really is a case of now or never.'

Each gym session involved 10 minutes rowing machine, 10 minutes treadmill and 10 minutes cycling.

After that, Chris has to do two sets of 12 on five specially designed weights machines.

Chris added: 'I've never really been in a gym before so it is a bit odd.

'Everyone is sweating away on the machines and staring at some TV screen.

'The gym culture can be strange as there are a lot of trendy people there.

'But I have no qualms about wearing socks with my trainers.'

So far, Chris has found the hard part of exercise is when the 'burn' hits muscles.

He said: 'When your muscles are burning you know it's doing your body good.

'But it really is a challenge when your heart beats that much.

'I think there is no way to lose weight other than to face pain!'
