More plans submitted for 119-home development in Westham

More plans have been put forward for a large development in Westham.

Back in July 2020 approval was gained for an outline application (reference:WD/2019/2027/MAO) for 119 homes to be built on land to the south of Rattle Road (Site C). Now approval for the reserved matters is being sought - appearance, landscaping, layout, and scale.

If Wealden District Council approves this application, 119 homes would be built on the 11.69-acres site that is currently for arable use. The plans say: “Land off Rattle Road presents an exciting opportunity to create a sensitively designed extension to the west of Westham. This will be a sustainable development and will provide up to 119 high quality homes including 41 affordable homes (35 per cent) for the local area.”

According to the plans, the site layout provides ‘a mixture of dwellings with generous rear gardens’ which would range from one-bed flats to four-bed detached houses. Two-storey dwellings make up ‘most of the site’. There’s lots of parking planned, with allocated spaces, garages, communal cycle storage, as well as unallocated/visitor parking spots.

The development would also include walking and cycling routes within, and play areas.

This site connects to Sites A and B, reserved matters planning applications have been submitted for those sites already. Outline planning consent has been gained for all three sites - this is the second phase of the scheme.

Plans say: “The development will be visually attractive and integrate well into the surrounding area by retaining existing trees and vegetations where possible and enhancing these with beautiful landscaped areas along the edges of the site.”

Members of the public can comment until January 21 (reference: WD/2022/2727/MRM).
