Man charged after abduction of Brighton girl

Sussex Police said a man has appeared in court charged with sexual offences and child abduction.

Police said the girl is under 16 and from Brighton. She cannot be identified for legal reasons.

A police spokesperson said: “Kerian Rudland, 23, unemployed, of Alwold Crescent, Eltham, London, appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court on Wednesday February 13, and was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on March 13.

“He is charged with child abduction, with meeting the girl for sexual purposes after online grooming, with two offences of sexual activity with a child and with one offence of attempting to incite sexual activity with a child.

“The girl is safe, and there are no current safeguarding issues for any other person.”

Sussex Police said Rudland was arrested in London on Monday morning (February 11), following an investigation by the Brighton Safeguarding Investigations Unit into a report received on Sunday evening (February 10).
