The duke endorsed the citation which led the chamber's executive committee to back Mr Stuart Nicolson.

This said he had showed a constant, long-standing dedication to the chamber of commerce and willingness to ensure chamber business is conducted in a professional manner, the chamber's promotion in Bognor and his enthusiasm for the town.

The Britten Trophy has been awarded annually since 1952 to the individual which the chamber considers has done the most for the town in the previous year. Past winners include Billy Butlin, Charlie Purdey, Dr Michael Ayres and Sqdn Ldr Kenneth Charlwood.

Mr Stuart Nicolson is in his second spell as the chamber's chairman, having become president in between the two periods.
