Traffic seen in Polegate following collision and level crossing failure

Heavy traffic has been seen in and around Polegate following a level crossing failure and a collision, according to the AA.

The AA said the barriers are stuck down by Polegate Railway Station – which is impacting High Street.

The incident was first reported at around 3.40pm today (Friday, September 2), according to the AA.

A spokesperson from Network Rail said: “There is a problem at Polegate and our signaller can’t seem to be able to raise the barriers.

“We have a person on site now manually controlling them (under instruction from the signaller at Three Bridges) until we can get a technical team to site to fix the problem.

“We’re really sorry to the people of the area, who have no doubt seen heavy traffic as a result, and we are on the case to fix the issue ASAP.”

The AA said there was also a two-vehicle collision on Cop Hall Roundabout – which was first reported to them at around 4pm.

According to Sussex Police there were no injuries and the road has since reopened.
