WORTHING Police has exclusively joined forces with the Herald to launch Crime Online – a scheme to help police identify images of people they want to speak to in relation to a range of crimes across the town.
On a monthly basis, up to 30 images will be released by the police, who are appealing to the public to provide information about the people in the pictures.
Some of the images show people who the police have been trying to trace for a number of months and may hold vital clues to help with ongoing investigations.
Each week, the Herald will be uploading the still images to our website with information about what incidents the people shown in them may have a connection to.
PS Stephen Rayland, who has organised the project, said: "Historically it has been down to police to identify these individuals from our own internal systems.
"By working with the Herald we are hoping that online readers will spend five minutes looking at these images and contact us with any information they may have."
CCTVThe majority of images have been taken from CCTV tapes. In most cases the pictures are of incidents connected to thefts, for example making off without payment, shoplifting and other petty crime.
It is hoped the exercise will help police bring more incidents through to a successful conclusion.
PS Rayland added: "This is a new and exciting way in which we are using different mediums to assist officers in their investigations which potentially could lead to more detected crime.
"I would encourage viewers to regularly take a look at the images. Someone must be able to identify them. If you can, please get in contact with us."
New imagesEach week the Herald will be adding new images to our website with details about how information can be given to the police.
This week, the images include a male believed to have information about a shoplifting incident in October at Lloyds Pharmacy in The Strand Parade, Goring, and a male aged between 20 and 35 who police would like to speak to regarding an incident at Worthing Hospital back in January.
